Spoke with Steve Liebmann about CES and the different technologies that came out of the show. Talked about 3D TV of course, which is already mentioned several times recently on the blog, while e-Readers are going to huge this year. There will be a stoush between Google, Amazon and Barnes and Noble over content, let alone the vendors trying to push their latest product in this ever increasing space.
Had a few calls today. Les was wondering about digital television and when it was going to go ahead. He asked because he needed to know when to get ready for the roll out. I do know that analogue is being switched off in 2013 and that varying towns, cities and states are turning off gradually over that time. I'd suggest getting a television with a built-in digital receiver or a set-top box.
Raymond is having a problem with sending his email in that it keeps on sending the file but is not leaving his out box. I think it is a problem with his server not telling his client (in this case Outlook) that the file has been sent. I suggested he download Thunderbird and have a crack at sending his emails that way. If that doesn't solve the problem, he should give me a call next week on the show and I'll suggest another avenue.
Finally, there was Friday who was having problems opening wmv files that were part of her incoming emails. One thing you can do is open the file in VLC (if a file doesn't open, usually a prompt appears asking you how you would like to open it and will give you a choice, one being VLC). Other than that I think Friday has probably got an older version wmv and needs to upgrade.

Hey Charlie, recently I received a new phone, the Samsung Star as a Christmas present. After going swimming in a salt water pool, I received a call and answered my phone with wet hands. I didn't think about it as I had handled my old, cheap phone with wet hands plenty of times, but now water has managed to seep into my new phone, and it won't turn on. I've currently got the phone sitting in a bowl of uncooked rice, and the moisture does seem to be going away slowly.
If it still doesn't work after I leave it in the rice, is there anything else I should do?

Hi Mellow,
Try this, grab an air tight plastic container, place inside the phone with the battery removed (hard if you own an iphone, but in this case you should be sweet), include some gel tabs (the owns you get in a new hand bag or pair of shoes), close the container and place in a ventilated location out of direct sunlight. Leave it there for a week or for as long as there is visible water in the phone.
The gel tabs should remore all the moisture from in the air drying the phone internally.
Put back in the battery and turn it on. Let me know if it works.

I was wondering what price the new 3D TVs will be in Aussie--or if there will be a devise to make the full HD TVs 3D?
Thanks for your time.

Voco,
Different manufacturers wil have different price points, however the general concensus is this:
- there will be a variety of platforms (plasma, lcd and led) within the one manufacturer that will include 3D display options.
My hypothethisis is this:
- there will be a variety of price points from about $2000 (my guess for the plasma options) to $7000 (my guess for the top of the line led options)
- May/June will start to see the role out of the new screens.
Haven't heard of an add on device, however as it stands now current hd tv's won't be able to run the 3D (or at least the real true 3d content) that is coming. With 3D you have to essentially display two screen images at once, one for the left and one for the right eye.

Hi Gloria,
When windows7 launched itunes was not compatible with the new operating
system.
I understand this is supposed to be fixed with a patch. The patch is
delivered via the regular up-date proces.
If MS and Apple have both run tech support for you and you can not open
the program still, I am not sure what you can do to get it working.
I will ask my contacts at MS, I am sure you are not alone with the issue.

Help - I have finished adding my photos and music to photoshop but when I go to burn my project to a DVD I get a message that "D" is inaccessible.
I have done projects 3 times before on my old computer but this new one is on my new laptop. Do I have a link missing somewhere? I am not very computer literate so don't know where to go next. The project is only 500

Hi MB,
If you can watch a DVD, load from a dvd and other regular dvd usage
activities, then I suggest it is a problem with the software you are
using to burn to the dvd.
Go into your 'add hardware' section of control panel and check to see if
the DVD drive is visible in your list of hardware. If it is not, then it
is a driver problem with your DVD drive.
Run the above tests and come back to me with what happens.
